Our name

Meitri Collaborative was founded by Dr. Mayumi Pierce and Dr. David Tran in 2017. The name Meitri is a neologism created by combining Mandarin Chinese and Vietnamese, reflecting their respective heritages. Together, the name represents our belief in the beauty, complexity, and individuality of every mind.

Drs. Tran and Pierce worked closely together throughout their psychiatric residency and both went on to practice in community mental health. They have cared for patients across a wide range of clinical settings, and those experiences continue to shape Meitri's commitment to accessibility, equity, and respect for each person's autonomy.

Our values

Meitri was founded on the belief that excellent mental health care should be available to all people. That commitment is reflected in our decision to participate with several major insurance plans, allowing us to care for patients who might otherwise struggle to access specialty psychiatric services.

Our clinicians share a commitment to careful, individualized care. We value thoughtful diagnosis, responsible prescribing, meaningful psychotherapy, clear communication, and lifelong learning.

We believe patients should understand their treatment options, participate actively in decisions about their care, and feel respected as partners throughout the therapeutic process.

Meitri remains provider owned and led. All decisions serve our patients and clinicians, not investors.

Our approach

Many people seek treatment during periods of crisis or significant distress. Reducing suffering and improving day-to-day functioning are often important first steps. As treatment progresses, our work often extends beyond symptom relief. We aim to help patients develop a deeper understanding of themselves, greater freedom in responding to life's challenges, and an increased capacity to shape their own lives.

We strive to help patients make informed decisions that reflect their own values and goals, recognizing that our role is not to direct a person's life, but to support them in their own journey.

Although each clinician has their own style and expertise, Meitri is truly collaborative. We regularly seek one another's perspectives through consultation, supervision, and ongoing professional dialogue. We believe the best care comes not only from individual expertise, but from a team that is committed to supporting and learning from one another.
